This would be interesting/useful for smoothing geospatial polygons (eg, KML).
There is no explicit geometry, polygons, or GPU acceleration, but raycasting in 3D is certainly 3D.
You might also want to cull backwards polygons or use a depth buffer.
I want to do intersections of polygons - think "what neighborhoods have overlap with this political district.
Storing polygons is probably key - if there's a query-by-radius or bounding box I can make an enclosing circle for my query and then do my own intersection tests with my query polygon.
